Women's Volleyball Wins Springfield College Invitational

Springfield, Mass. - August 31, 2019 - The Springfield College women's volleyball program battled to a five-set win over Westfield State before handling Brandeis in straight sets to win the 2019 Springfield College Invitational in Blake Arena on Saturday. 

The wins boosted the Pride's record to 3-0 on the young season.  Camryn Bancroft (Eastport, N.Y.)  was named the Most Outstanding Player of the Invitational for the second-straight season, while teammate Sara Labadorf (Huntersville, N.C.) also earned All-Invitational honors for the second year in a row.

On Friday, Springfield will head to New York City to compete in the NYU Invitational, beginning with a showdown against Skidmore at 6 pm.

Springfield 3, Westfield State 2 (25-17, 26-28, 18-25, 25-19, 15-12)

Camryn Bancroft (Eastport, N.Y.) put together a dominant morning in the middle as she registered 18 kills and seven blocks, while Sara Labadorf (Huntersville, N.C.) was credited with 37 assists and 16 digsAnagabrielle Sanchez (Caguas, Puerto Rico) was once again impressive with a 24-dig performance, and Demi Spanos (West Harrison, N.Y.) added 16 digs and six kills of her own. 

After taking the opening set by a 25-17 decision as Bancroft notched four kills and three blocks, the Pride found itself down 23-17 in the second set.  However, the hosts would battle back to earn set point at 25-24, only to have the Owls take advantage of three attack errors down the stretch for the 28-26 win.  The visitors carried that momentum into the third, winning 25-18 as the Pride was held to a .026 hitting percentage.  Springfield bounced back with a .410 hitting percentage in the fourth as Bancroft carried the offensive load with seven kills en route to the 25-19 win.  In the fifth, the Pride earned an 11-8 lead following a kill from Ashley Tanner (Manorville, N.Y.), and despite Westfield State pulling with 13-12, kills from Spanos and Bridget Walsh (Garrison, N.Y.) completed the comeback. 


Springfield 3, Brandeis 0 (25-23, 25-11, 25-20)

Camryn Bancroft (Eastport, N.Y.) was equally as impressive in the victory over Brandeis as she registered 13 kills on 15 attempts, committing just one error, en route to a .800 hitting percentage.  The junior middle also added a match-best six blocks.  Anagabrielle Sanchez (Caguas, Puerto Rico) recorded 17 digsSara Labadorf (Huntersville, N.C.) totaled three of the Pride's eight aces and handed out 38 assists, and Gabrielle Bradley (Fairfax, Va.) stuffed her stat sheet with nine kills, three blocks, three digs, and two aces. 

Despite only hitting .195 in the first set, Springfield used six aces, including a pair from Labadorf, to pull away with a 25-23 win. In the second set, the Pride turned in a .522 hitting percentage as a team and eased its way to a 25-11 victory. Bancroft put away kills on all five of her swings and added two blocks to helping keep the Judges to a .000 hitting percentage.  Knotted at 17-all in the third, the Pride sealed the invitational title with an 8-3 surge, highlighted by three kills from Bradley, to complete the sweep.
