Women’s Track & Field Competes on Day Two of New England Division III Track and Field Championships

 

Springfield, Mass. – May 2, 2014 - The Springfield College women's track & field team was represented by three student-athletes on Friday on day two of the New England Division III Track and Field Championships.

Amanda Martin (Bristol, Conn.) led the trio of long jumpers, placing fourth in the event with a leap of 18-00.25 to earn All-New England honors. The New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Field Athlete of the Year jumped 10 inches better than she did last week at the conference championship to lead the Pride.

Teammates Erin Womboldt (Falmouth, Mass.) and Darian Dailey (East Providence, R.I.) also competed in the event, finishing 18th and 19th overall, respectively. Womboldt took 18th with a jump of 15-11.50 while Dailey was right behind with a jump of 15-10.25.

After two days, MIT leads the team standings with 34 points. Williams is in second place with 15 points, Colby and RIC are tied for third with 13 points each while Worcester State rounds out the top five with 12 points. Springfield sits in 11th place in a field of 18 teams with five points.

Saturday will be the final day of the New England Division III Track and Field Championships. Events will kick off at 10:00 a.m. with team awards set to be announced at approximately 5:15 p.m.
