Wenham, Mass. - October 4, 2019 - The Springfield College women's tennis team continued its winning ways with a 6-3 victory at Gordon College on Friday afternoon to improve to 3-0 on the 2019 campaign.
The Pride picked up two wins in doubles play as Cara Freadman (Richmond, Mass.) and Rielly Malz (Glastonbury, Conn.) were the first off the courts with an 8-5 decision at the No. 1 spot, while Juliette Piazza (Portland, Conn.) and Amanda Hill (East Longmeadow, Mass.) delivered an 8-7 (7-3) triumph at No. 3.
In singles action, Malz powered her way to a 6-1, 6-3 victory at No. 2 before Freadman followed with a 6-3, 6-3 win of her own at No. 1. After Gordon earned their first win of singles play at No. 5, Rachel Ahlmeyer (Morris Plains, N.J.) clinched the match for Springfield as she rallied from dropping the first set, 4-6, to win the next two by scores of 6-3 and 6-4. Springfield's final win of the afternoon came from Heidi Schuman (Averill Park, N.Y.), who earned her way to a 4-6, 6-4, 7-5 win at the No. 6 position.
Springfield will play again on Sunday when it hosts Endicott at 12 pm.
