South Hadley, Mass. - October 16, 2016 - The Springfield College duo of Emily Etter (Guilford, Conn.) and Stephanie Foster (Woodbridge, Conn.) captured the NEWITT Championship in the "D" draw over the weekend at Mount Holyoke College.

After picking up a 3-0 win over Smith, which was highlighted by Etter's 6-0, 6-0 win at singles, the tandem took all three points from Godron, with Foster producing a 6-1, 6-2 singles win.  The Pride then knocked off Endicott's No. 2 team, with Foster grinding out a 6-7, 6-0, 6-3 win before eventually upsetting Endicott's No. 1 team to claim the championship.

It marked the first time in Division III program history that a Springfield College women's tennis team captured a NEWITT title.

In the "C" draw, Springfield had two teams reach the consolation finals, with the team of Cara Freadman (Richmond, Mass.) and Rebecca Link (Norwalk, Conn.) prevailing over Rachel London (Port Jefferson, N.Y.) and Melissa Parrish (Framingham, Mass.).  After team team lost their opening round matchup, they each won their next two contests to advance to the consolation finals.

In the finals, London and Parrish won an 8-6 decision in doubles before Link prevailed, 4-6, 6-1, 11-9 over London and Freadman bested Parrish, 6-1, 7-6(3).
