Worcester, Mass. - February 24, 2019 - The Springfield College women's swimming and diving team concluded the 2019 New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Championships on Sunday at WPI and finished fourth as a team.
MIT won the 10-team competition with 1,281 points, followed by Wheaton (908), Coast Guard (724), Springfield (651), and Wellesley (608).
Olivia Paione (Auburn, Maine) posted another NEWMAC Second-Team All-Conference performance as she was the runner up in the 200 breast in 2:23.57. Izzy Ripp (Selden, N.Y.) also completed the race in 2:29.13 en route to sixth-place points.
In the 1,650 freestyle, Hannah Savoie (Milford, Conn.) delivered a time of 18:23.58 to finish in 10th place, while Grace Moore (Glastonbury, Conn.) raced to a third-place finish in the 200 back with a 2:05.98, and teammate Hillary Gallagher (Exeter, R.I.) took sixth in 2:08.77. Springfield had a tremendous showing in the 200 fly, with Madisen Crowley (Manchester, Conn.) taking seventh in 2:11.81, Savoie adding a 2:11.99 to take eighth, and Danielle Hoffner (Bridgewater, N.J.) touching 10th in 2:14.22.
One the three-meter board, Springfield had a pair of divers finish in the top seven, with Sierra Skaza's (Belchertown, Mass.) placing fourth after earning a score of 488.25. Bailee Carey (Quincy, Mass.) scored a 463.85 and took seventh as well for the Pride.
In the final event of the four-day championship Haley Cordery (Berkley, Mass.), Moore, Ripp, and Paione combined to swim a 3:34.86 in the 400 free relay to finish in fifth place.
