Springfield, Mass. - November 15, 2019 - After claiming an individual title at the Ned McGinley Inviational last Saturday at King's College, Springfield College's Joey Manginelli (Dumont, N.J.) was selected as the New England Wrestling Association (NEWA) Rookie of the Week.
Wrestling at the 125 pound weight class, Joey was the top seed as breezed through the competition as he notched a 20-2 technical fall over Roger Williams' Ben Dubois, posted an 11-3 major decision versus Alex Giron from York, a 9-1 major decision against John Deconno from Oneonta, and then a 17-5 major decision over Gus Petruske IV from King's in the championship. It's been an impressive start to the Business Management's collegiate career as he previously placed second at the Ithaca Invitational and is 8-1 on the year. He is currently ranked No. 2 in the NEWA individual rankings at 125.
On Sunday, Manginelli and the Pride will compete in the City of Springfield Championships, which will be hosted at American International College.
