Middletown, Conn. - January 27, 2018 - Despite being tied at 13-all with two bouts remaining, the Springfield College wrestling team came up short at Wesleyan University on Saturday evening in a dual meet.
Springfield dug itself a 10-0 deficit as it dropped a major decision at 125 and a pair of decisions at 133 and 141 to begin the match. Ryan Peters (Wells, Maine) got Springfield on the board after manufacturing a 3-1 at 149, only to have the Cardinals bounce back with a decision of their own at 157 for the 13-3 advantage.
Nicholas Almonte (Cranston, R.I.) picked up an important 8-4 at 165 before Aarin Feliz (Lake Hawatha, N.J.) toughed out a 4-2 win at 174 to close the hosts gap to 13-9. Seve Burgos (Guilford, Conn.) then delivered in a big way for Springfield with a major decision at 184 by virtue of a 12-4 score, knotting the match up at 13-13.
However, Wesleyan made quick work of the final two bouts, producing a pin in 31 seconds at 197 and another pinfall in 48 seconds at 285 en route to the 25-13 victory.
The Pride will hit the mats again on Sunday, competing for the third-consecutive day as it heads to Providence for the Wildcat Open.
