Goslin Named Springfield College Student Trustee-elect for 2018-19 Academic Year

Springfield, Mass. - June 8, 2018 - Springfield College President, Dr. Mary-Beth Cooper, is pleased to announce that sophomore Alex Goslin (South Windsor, Conn.) has been named Springfield College Student Trustee-elect for the 2018-19 academic year.

The appointment was made by the Committee on Trustees of the Springfield College Board of Trustees during their recent April meeting and received final confirmation at the June Board of Trustees meeting.  Goslin, a mathematics and secondary education major, will be the 49th Springfield College Student Trustee.

"Alex has emerged as a leader among her peers since the first day she stepped foot on campus, and I'm proud to see her step into this important role where she will represent her fellow classmates," said Springfield College Director of Athletics, Craig Poisson.  "She has done a great job representing Springfield College on and off the court, and I'm confident she will continue to develop as a leader through this unique opportunity presented to her."

The Student Trustee is a time honored tradition at Springfield College, and Springfield College is proud to be one of a small percentage of private colleges with a Student Trustee on its board.  According to the Association of Governing Boards of Universities and Colleges, just 10 percent of independent institutions have a student member on the Board of Trustees. The Student Trustee is a voting member of the Board of Trustees, the primary governing body of the College.  The Board is responsible for major decisions and changes on campus and comprises an integral part of the progress and advancement of the College.

Goslin, a sophomore point guard for the Springfield College women's basketball team, has helped lead the Pride to consecutive 20-win seasons, as the maroon and white has put forth an overall record of 40-18 during her time on campus. Goslin has started 31 of the 58 games that she has played in over the past two seasons, including starting all 29 games for the Pride during the 2017-18 season.

The South Windsor, Conn. native has averaged 8.7 points, 3.0 assists, 2.8 rebounds 1.3 steals during her two years on campus and was named to the Pride's leadership team heading into her junior season.

Outside of Blake Arena, Goslin has become actively involved on Springfield College's campus, as she is a member of the Planning Committee for the Math Department Awards event, an Open House student speaker, and recently participated in a service trip to South Dakota where she helped build homes, work camps and experienced the native american culture. Additionally, Goslin is also a math tutor in the Academic Success Center, a pre-camp leader, a leadership summit facilitator, is on the Executive Board for the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and is part of the math club.
