Springfield, Mass. - September 21, 2019 - The Springfield College men's tennis team team defeated by St. Michael's by a 9-0 decision on Saturday afternoon on Appleton Courts.
St. Michael's, which is a Division II program and plays in the Northeast-10 Conference, improved to 1-0, while the Pride slipped to 1-1.
Jack Wheeler (Irvine, Calif.) and Fabian Jensen (Stavanger, Norway) put together a strong showing in doubles at the No. 1 spot for Springfield in an 8-5 setback. Michael Kendrick (Albany, N.Y.) and Hieu Ton (Rocky Hill, Conn.) and Freddie Moffa (Granby, Conn.) and Greg Baker (Princeton, N.J.) were each defeated, 8-4, and No. 2 and No. 3 doubles, respectively.
Kendrick had Springfield's best performance in singles while competing at No. 4, as he took the opening set, 6-4, before dropping the next two frames, 6-4, 10-8. At No. 6, Jack Anastopoulos (Chestnut Hill, Mass.) was edged 6-3, 6-4.
Springfield will compete for the third time this week when it travels to take on Colby-Sawyer on Sunday at 1 pm.
