Greensboro, N.C. - March 23, 2019 - Springfield College's Connor Pennington (Monson, Mass.) and Luca Brashear (Amherst, Mass.) wrapped up the NCAA Division III Championships by competing on the three-meter board on Saturday at the Greensboro Aquatics Center.
23 divers from across the country competed in the event on Saturday, and Pennington took ninth to earn Honorable Mention All-America honors. In the 11-dive prelims, Pennington finished 15th with a 449.90 to earn a spot in the consolation finals. The sophomore was on the brink of qualifying for the championship finals, but failed his 11th dive of the afternoon. However, his score was high enough to be one of the eight student-athletes in the in the six-dive consolation. The Computer Graphics and Digital Arts major went on to score 515.65 a to finish first in the consolation finals and ninth overall, marking the fourth All-America recognition of his young career.
Brashear finished 17th in the prelims with an 11-dive score of 441.15, just missing out on making the consolation finals by .20 points. It was a terrific first trip to the national stage for the freshman, as he earned Honorable Mention All-America honors on the one-meter board on Thursday after finishing 11th in the country.
