Cambridge, Mass. - March 2, 2019 - Springfield College's Connor Pennington (Monson, Mass.) won the regional title on the one-meter board to highlight the efforts of four Springfield men's divers who competed in the second and final day of the 2019 NCAA Division III Diving Regional Championship, which took place at the Zesiger Sports and Fitness Center Pool at MIT.
A total of 23 divers were vying for seven spots from the region to the 2019 NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving Championships, which will be held on March 20-23, 2019, at the Greensboro Aquatic Center in Greensboro, North Carolina. Springfield's four divers in the event tied for the most of any program in the region.
Pennington became the first men's diver in program history to capture a title at the NCAA Division III Regional Championships, as the sophomore turned in a winning score of 503.20. Teammate Luca Brashear (Amherst, Mass.) finished seventh for the second-consecutive day as he wrapped up the one-meter competition with a 436.10. Valmore Stewart (Windsor, Conn.) placed 15th after earning a 384.90, and Sean Andrews (Framingham, Mass.) rounded out Springfield's regional representatives with a 366.35 to finish in 17th.
Both Pennington and Brashear will now await for an official announcement from the NCAA as to whether or not they have earned a bid to the upcoming national meet.
