Springfield, Mass. - January 29, 2018 - Following a meet in which he broke a pair of Springfield College men's swimming and diving program records, freshman Connor Pennington (Monson, Mass.) was recognized as the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) and New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Men's Diver of the Week, announced by the conference offices on Monday.
This marks the fourth time during the 2017-18 season that Pennington has been named the NEWMAC Men's Diver of the Week and third time that he has been the ECAC Division III New England Diver of the Week.
In Springfield's home-finale against Holy Cross on Saturday, it was a historical day on the diving boards as Pennington set the new program six-dive record on both the one-meter and three-meter board. Starting on the three-meter, the first-year smashed Brian Sobel's previous record of of 361.10 set in 2011, as he totaled a 377.78. Then on the one-meter, Pennington put together another sensational performance, producing a score of 369.08, which bested Sobel's mark of 360.35 which was also set in 2011.
Up next, Springfield College will hit the road and compete in the Middlebury Invitational on Friday, Feburary 2 and Saturday, February 3.
