Men's Swimming and Diving Takes Ninth at Ithaca College Invitational

Ithaca, N.Y. - December 3, 2017 - The Springfield College men's swimming and diving team wrapped up competition at the three-day Ithaca College Invitational on Sunday, as the Pride finished ninth overall with 424 points. 

Division I Cornell University took first place with 2279.5 points, as it was followed by SUNY Geneseo with 1217.5 points, Rochester (783.5), Nazareth (779) and LeMoyne (531) to round out the top five.

Starting the final session with the 1650 freestyle, Roberto Morales (Westfield, Mass.) was the Pride's top finisher with a time of 18:03.44, while in the 100 individual medley, Kyle Bauer (Bath, Maine) took ninth overall with a time of 57.43 seconds. Tim DeCoste (Greenville, R.I.) and Sean Mitchell (Canton, Mass.) were the Pride's top two finishers in the 100 freestyle, as DeCoste notched a time of 49.24 seconds, while Mitchell followed with a time of 49.48 seconds.

In the 200 backstroke, Sean Harnish (Middlebury, Conn.) finished with a mark of 2:03.03, as he was closely followed by Christopher Schreiner (Fairfield, Conn.) with a 2:05.02. Kent Parsons (Hamilton, Mass.) continued his dominant weekend with a time of 2:09.89 in the 200 breaststroke, which was good for seventh overall, before Springfield College wrapped up the meet with the 400 freestyle relay, in which the team of Vladmir Burnin (Sosnovy Bor, Leningrad Oblast, Russia), Bauer, Schreiner and Anthony Soares (Worcester, Mass.) clocked in at 3:28.74.

On the one-meter board, Connor Pennington (Monson, Mass.) continued to impress as he took third overall with a score of 474.45.

Springfield College will return to action on Saturday, December 9 when it heads to Middlebury College.
