Springfield, Mass. - October 28, 2017 - The Springfield College men's swimming and diving team was edged by visiting Coast Guard, 175-112, on Saturday afternoon at the Art Linkletter Natatorium.
Connor Pennington (Monson, Mass.) dominated the diving events in his collegiate debut, winning the 3-meter board with a 294.25, nearly 80 points ahead of the next diver. On the one-meter board, the first-year scored a 311.90, which proved to be almost 100 points ahead of the field.
The Pride's 200 medley team of Christopher Schreiner (Fairfield, Conn.), Kyle Bauer (Bath, Maine), Anthony Soares (Worcester, Mass.), and Sean Mitchell (Canton, Mass.) finished third in 1:43.07 in the opening race of the day.
Kent Parsons (Hamilton, Mass.) had a standout showing and produced the fastest time in the 200 IM with a 2:02.70, was the runner up in the 100 free with a 49.15, and took third in the 100 breast with a time of 1:00.69.
Sean Harnish (Middlebury, Conn.) placed third in the 100 back in 57.28, while Soares posted a time of 2:17.57 to take third in the 200 fly. Mitchell sprinted to a third-place finish in the 50 free in 22.73, and Bauer placed third with a 2:23.16 in the 200 breast.
Springfield closed out the meet with the third-best time in the 200 free thanks to the efforts of Parsons, Mitchell, Nicholas Smith (Longmeadow, Mass.), and Harnish, who combined for a 1:30.26.
