Springfield, Mass- October 29, 2019- The Springfield College men's soccer program was defeated 1-0 by UMass-Boston on Tuesday afternoon at Brock-Affleck Field.
The Pride are set back to an overall record of 4-12-1. UMass-Boston improves to 12-3-2 on the season. Springfield had seven saves in the game.
In the first half, the Beacons pressed the Springfield with a several shots, but the Pride were able to contend with the visitors. At 16:50, Rafael DeSousza ripped a shot that hit the crossbar and was corralled by Chris Prizio (Trumbull, Mass.), who had three saves in the period.
The second half began with similar presser from the Beacons. At 72:17, Nick Fontana dodged Clayton Knibbs (Madison, Conn.), but Mateusz Dziemian (Stamford, Conn.) was there to keep the visitors off the scoreboard.
Eventually, at 74:33, Fontana would benefit from a through ball that he punched in for the UMass-Boston score that would break the tie at 1-0. At 87:11, a cross would lift into the box for Timothy Brereton (Staten Island, N.Y.), but his header would skim just over the crossbar. UMass-Boston would dribble out the ball and secure the victory.
Springfield will finish off the regular season as they travel to Wheaton College on Saturday, November 2 at 2 pm.
