Framingham, Mass. - September 30, 2019 - The Springfield College men's soccer program picked up a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Framingham State on Monday afternoon.
The win boosts Springfield to 3-7-1 overall and the Rams sink to 4-6.
The entire first half was held in a scoreless tie with Springfield registering seven shots in the period. The Pride had a scoring chance in the final five minutes of the period, but Jake Hartshorn made an athletic save from the home team. The Rams broke the tie with a strike from Dante Mancini in the 55th-minute off a feed from Nahuel Algibay.
Later in the half, Springfield advanced the ball up the field to towards the box and a Framingham foul awarded the Pride a free kick. Jack Rosenberg (Simsbury, Conn.) lined up the free kick and rifled it past the Rams defense for the equalizing goal in the 78th minute. With only two minutes remaining, the Pride forced another turnover and benefitted from great ball movement up the field. Andrew Ma (Upper Saddle River, N.J.) lifted a pass perfectly to Aiden Casinghino (Brimfield, Mass.), who headed it through to give Springfield the 2-1 lead.
Casinghino's header in the 88th-minute would prove to be the game-winner.
Springfield will return to NEWMAC play on Saturday, October 5 as they travel to face Clark University at 1 pm.
