Springfield, Mass. - February 24, 2019 - The Springfield College men's gymnastics team hosted a tri-meet with William & Mary and Temple on Sunday afternoon in Blake Arena and posted a team score of 376.700. William & Mary won the competition with a 394.150, while Temple rounded out the scoring with a 352.550.
Stephen Lewis (Baltimore, Md.) was terrific for Springfield as he won the all-around competition with an 80.450 and had the Pride's top score of five of the six events. Teammate Trevor Lamberton (Willow Spring, N.C.) was the runner-up in the all-around after turning in a 73.550.
Starting the day off on the floor exercise, Lewis paced the Pride with a 13.700, which was the top score in the competition, and teammate Christian Wilkey Jr. (Lowell, Mass.) added a 12.55 as the Pride's next highest scorer in the event. Moving to the pommel horse, Lewis again had Springfield's best showing with a 13.100, followed by Jack Vollo's (Rochester, N.Y.) score of 12.300.
Springfield put together their best team performance on the vault as they turned in a rotational score of 68.450. Lewis finished third in the event with a 14.300, and Noah Candocia (Bradenton, Fla.) placed fourth with a career-best mark of 14.200.
Lewis had the second-best score of the afternoon on the rings with a 12.750 to again lead Springfield, while John Rowbotham (Tyngsboro, Mass.) chipped in a 12.550. On the parallel bars, Lewis was credited with a career-best score of 13.900, as he again finished second on the event, while Jannik Haas (San Jose, Calif.) delivered a 13.500. In the final event of the day, Haas hit for a 13.300 on the horizontal bar to highlight Springfield's efforts, with Lewis adding a 12.600 to conclude his afternoon.
Springfield will compete in Blake Arena again next Sunday when it hosts Navy at 1 pm.
