West Point, N.Y. — January 28, 2012 — The Springfield College men’s gymnastics team competed at Army over the past two evenings, finishing fifth of seven teams during the first night of competition. Four individual SC gymnasts qualified to participate in the individual competition.
Team scores on Friday were as follows: Penn State 352.000, Temple 342.300, Army 326.200, Navy 324.000, Springfield 322.200, Arizona State 318.900, and Brockport State 247.300.
Also on Friday, the All-Around competition was concluded with two SC athletes finishing in the top 10. Senior Ty Evans (San Jose, Calif.) placed fourth with a score of 82.200. Freshman Ian Stratton (Elizabeth City, N.C.) placed ninth with a score of 77.800.
The four individuals who advanced to compete on Saturday included Evans in both the floor exercise and the vault, sophomore Ryan Ponce (Tolland, Conn.) in the still rings, junior Kevin Miner (Canton, Conn.) in the parallel bars, and junior Chris Jost (Ashland, Mass.) , also in the vault.
In those results, Evans finished third in the vault at 14.950 and seventh in the floor exercise (14.250). Ponce placed fourth in the still rings at 14.400. Jost took fifth in the vault with a score of 14.800. And Miner took a seventh in the parallel bars with a score of 13.500.
