North Dartmouth, Mass. - April 19, 2019 - The Springfield College golf team had a terrific opening round at the UMass Dartmouth Lafrance Hospitality Invitational on Friday and sits in fourth place among the 15 teams in the competition.
Playing at the Par 72 Allendale Country Club, the Pride totaled 319 strokes as it continued to put up low scores during the spring portion of its season. Host UMass Dartmouth leads the field with a 307, followed by Nichols (316), Endicott (318), Springfield, and Husson (321).
A week removed from shooting a 74-73 at the Johnson & Wales Wildcat Invitational, Mike Strong (Newington, Conn.) was again impressive as he shot a three-over 75 and is third individually among the 75 golfers in the event. Teammate Corey Roya (Manchester, Conn.) is also among the 10 top on the leaderboard after a first-round score of 77 has him tied for eighth.
Jake Raichle (Bethlehem, N.H.) registered an 82 in his opening round, Joe Piwowarski (Cumberland, Maine) turned in an 85, and Matt Gazaille (Palmer, Mass.) registered an 88 to round out Springfield's scoring.
