Springfield, Mass. - May 23, 2019 - Springfield College's Mark Joao (Wappingers Falls, N.Y.) was honored for his impressive 2019 season, as the graduate student earned D3baseball.com All-Region honors, announced on Thursday afternoon.
Earlier this season, Joao also earned New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) First Team All-Conference honors, and was recognized for his work in the classroom, being named to the Google Cloud Academic All-District® team, selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America. Joao was one of eight student-athletes from the NEWMAC that earned D3baseball.com All-New England accolades.
A graduate student studying Physical Therapy at Springfield College, Joao had a monster year at the plate as he batted .380, producing 41 hits in 108 at bats, while also producing a grade-point average of 3.85 in a rigorous academic program. Joao finished the year driving in 23 runs, scoring 26 and registering four home runs, four triples and six doubles.
Joao's career batting average of .347 is No. 2 all-time in the history of the Springfield College baseball program, as Joao will also leave Alden Street No. 2 all-time in runs scored with 109. In the field, Joao was as solid as they come at second, as he finished the year with a fielding percentage of .970, limiting himself to just four errors on the year.
