Women's Cross Country Takes Third at Smith College Invitational

Northampton, Mass. - September 8, 2018 - The Springfield College women's cross country team accumulated 59 points and finished third of six teams at the Smith College Invitational on Saturday morning.

Racing the 5k course, Smith College took first with 51 points, while Mount Holyoke was second with 56 points. Following the Pride was Keene State (60), Babson (126) and Dean College (190).

Senior Kristen Madeia (Berlin, Conn.) was impressive for the maroon and white, as she took second overall with a time of 20:16.8, averaging a 6:31.6 mile. Following Madeia was sophomore Emory Fairchild (New Milford, Conn.), who was 10th overall with a time of 21:10.6, closely followed by Abby Murdock (Westerly, R.I.), who clocked in at 21:11.1.

Next for the Pride was Rachel Wentnick (Metuchen, Mass.), who notched a time of 21:36.7, while Laura Volan (Scarborough, Maine) was next with a mark of 21:46.6. Following Volan was Heather Fontaine (Brimfield, Mass.), who finished in 21:48.7, just ahead of Sophia Andrew (Newtown, Conn.), who clocked in at 22:00.9.

Springfield College will return to action on Saturday, September 15 when the Pride competes in the UMass Dartmouth Invitational, beginning at 10:30 a.m.
