Women's Cross Country Takes Second at Ramapo Season Opener

Flemington, N.J. - September 1, 2017 - The Springfield College women's cross country team raced in the Ramapo Invitational on Friday evening at Deer Path Park and finished second in the seven-team field.

Competing out of the New England region to kick off the season, the Pride totaled 51 points in the race behind host Ramapo, who totaled 18 points.  Nyack (105) took third, closely followed by FDU-Florham (106), Bloomfied (125), Montclair State (140), and Manhattanville (174).

Kristen Madeia (Berlin, Conn.) was Springfield's top finisher as she ran the 5k course in a time of 20:14.9, followed by classmates Macayla LaChance (Peabody, Mass.) and Hannah Wunderlich (Methuen, Mass.), who finished 10th and 11th in 21:06.6 and 21:10.6, respectively.  Emily Giardino (Bellingham, Mass.) was the Pride's next fastest runner in 21:13.3, while Laura Volan (Scarborough, Maine) crossed the finish line in 21.38.2.

Springfield will next run in the UMass Dartmouth Invitational on Saturday, September 16.
