Boston, Mass. - October 24, 2016 - Springfield College's Anagabrielle Sanchez (Caguas, Puerto Rico) continued to earn accolades for her efforts on the court selected as the New England Women's Volleyball Defensive Athlete of the Week as well as the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Corvias Division III New England Defensive Player and Rookie of the Week.
It was the third time this season that Sanchez earned the conference's weekly honor, and the first time in her career that she garnered regional recognition.
Sanchez put together another incredible week defensively as Springfield went 3-1, including knocking off the region's top-ranekd team during the New England Challenge. In four matches, the first-year libero totaled 79 digs, averaging 6.58 per set, had zero reception errors in 37 attempts, and anchored a defense that held its opponents to a combined .150 hitting average.
The Criminal Justice major opened up the week with a 25-dig peformance in just three sets as the Pride swept WPI, before notching 22 digs which helped limit the region's top-ranked team, Tufts, to just a .105 hitting percentage en route to its first straight-set loss of the season. On Saturday, Sanchez posted 17 digs and five assists in a three-set sweep of Middlebury before turning in 15 digs against Williams.
Springfield plays its final non-conference match of the season on Wednesday when it travels to take on regionally-ranked Amherst for a 7 pm contest.
