Colorado Springs, Colo. - September 10, 2016 - The Springfield College women's volleyball team wrapped up their out of region trip by splitting a pair of matches on Saturday in the Colorado College Invitational.
Springfield opened the day with a three-game sweep of Occidental by the scores of 25-17, 25-19, 25-20, before falling in straight sets to 14th-ranked Texas-Dallas, 25-19, 25-19, 25-22. The match against Texas-Dallas proved to be the second match against a nationally-ranked team this weekend for the Pride, as it previously took on 5th-ranked Colorado College on Friday evening.
In the opener, Lauren Holt (Granby, Conn.) was dominant at the net versus Occidental as she racked up 10 blocks to go along with eight kills. Jennifer Donnelly (Exeter, R.I.) led Springfield with a team-best eight kills at a .500 clip, while Jennifer Hurwitz (Longmeadow, Mass.) totaled 10 digs and seven kills. Marnae Mawdsley (Bolton, Conn.) and Daniela Detore (Lake Grove, N.Y.) combined for 29 assists, with Mawdsley pitching in 10 digs.
Against Texas-Dallas, Kayleigh Helgesen (Oceanside, Calif.) notched a team-best 10 kills, while Holt chipped in nine kills and three blocks. Mawdsley paced Springfield with 15 digs, and Anagabrielle Sanchez (Caguas, Puerto Rico) added 12 digs and a pair of aces.
For their efforts throughout the weekend, both Holt and Mawdsley were named to the All-Tournament Team.
Springfield will return to the East Coast to open up New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play when it takes on Coast Guard on Wednesday at 7 pm.
