Women's Track and Field Competes to Eighth-Place Finish at Silfen Invitational

New London, Conn. - April 13, 2019 - The Springfield College women's track and field team took eighth overall at the Silfen Invitational this past weekend, which was a two-day meet hosted by Connecticut College on Friday night and all day Saturday.

The Pride produced 54.5 points at meet's end, as Middlebury won the meet with 116 points. Rounding out the top five was Bowdoin (108), Tufts (94.5), Connecticut College (83) and Trinity (80). 

The 4x100 relay team of Abby Tantorski (North Haven, Conn.), Katie Evans (Holyoke, Mass.), Emma Donohue (East Hampton, Conn.) and Sydney Fackrell (Hamburg, N.J.) combined for a time of 50.57 seconds to take sixth, before Katherine Strain (Longmeadow, Mass.) earned fifth-place points in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 15.90 seconds. Fackrell and Tantorski took sixth and seventh, respectively, in the 100 meter dash, as Fackrell edged Tantorski's time of 13.05 seconds with a 13.03-second performance, while in the 200 meter dash, Tantorski was fifth with a time of 26.72 seconds.

Alexandra Pratt (Pawcatuk, Conn.) was eighth in the triple jump with a distance of 10.38 meters, while in the hammer throw, Mikaela LoPriore (Niantic, Conn.) was eighth with a mark of 41.36 meters. Sam Liberty (Pascoag, R.I.) was second in the javelin with a heave of 38.95 meters, while LoPriore was seventh in the shot put with a mark of 11.54 meters, just ahead of Emily Lacasse (West Hartford, Conn.), who threw 11.44 meters.

In the high jump, Caroline Hitchcock (Agawam, Mass.) was the Pride's top performer once again as she cleared 1.60 meters to take second overall, and had fewer misses than Chloe Dewhurst (Lancaster, Mass.) and Taylor Nogiec (Berlin, Conn.), who took fourth and fifth, respectively, also clearing 1.60 meters.

On Friday night, Rachel Wentnick (Metuchen, N.J.) finished 11th in the women's 10k with a personal-best time of 40:11.75, qualifying for Division III New England and All New England Championships, while in the field events, LoPriore scored points in the discus with a heave of 36.99 meters. Competing in four of the five heptathlon events on Friday night, Emily LaPlante (Troy, N.Y.) finished the heptathlon on fifth-place with a total of 3831 points, highlighted by a total of 500 points with a second-place finish in the shot put, producing a mark of 9.55 meters. 

Up next, Springfield College will gear up for its lone home meet of the spring, hosting the Springfield College Invitational at Blake Track on Saturday, April 20.
