Springfield, Mass. - April 28, 2018 - The duo of Mikaela LoPriore (Niantic, Conn.) and Taylor Nogiec (Berlin, Conn.) both earned conference titles in their respective events, as the Springfield College women's track and field team finished fifth overall at the 2018 New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Track and Field Championships, hosted at Blake Track on Saturday.
MIT won the meet with a total of 213 points, as the Engineers were followed by WPI (140.50), Wheaton (116) and Coast Guard (107.50) before the Pride rounded out the top five.
Junior Abby Tantorski (North Haven, Conn.) took eighth in the 100 meter dash with a time of 12.86 seconds, before taking eighth again in the 200 meter dash with a time of 26.38 seconds. Katie Evans (Holyoke, Mass.) was eighth in the 400 meter dash with a time of 1:03.41, while in the 800 meter run, Kristen Madeia (Berlin, Conn.) was fifth with a mark of 2:16.11. Madeia would also take sixth in the 5000 meter run, crossing in 19:17.08, before Katherine Strain (Longmeadow, Mass.) was sixth in the 100 meter hurdles, clocking in at 16.02 seconds.
The 4x100 meter relay team of Tantorski, Evans, Tiffany Tenney (Orange, Mass.) and Jaime Jax (Brooklyn, Conn.) finished fourth, combining for a time of 50.81 seconds, while in the field events, Nogiec cleared 1.59 meters in the high jump en route to the first NEWMAC title of her career. Pratt was fifth in the long jump with a mark of 5.15 meters, before Caroline Hitchcock (Agawam, Mass.) was fifth in the triple jump with a distance of 10.73 meters.
LoPriore won the shot put with a heave of 12.43 meters, before Sam Liberty (Pascoag, R.I.) was third in the javelin with a mark of 37.48 meters.
Springfield College will now focus on the Division III New England Championships, which will be hosted at MIT on Thursday, May 3 and Friday, May 4.
