Springfield, Mass. - April 21, 2018 - The women's track and field team hosted the Springfield College Classic at Blake Track on Saturday, a nine-team meet in which the Pride took second overall.
The maroon and white totaled 144.66 points to take second, while American International College won with 183.83. Rounding out the top five was Worcester State (93), Coast Guard (78) and Westfield State (77.16).
Junior Abby Tantorski (North Haven, Conn.) took fourth in the 200 meter dash with a time of 26.97 seconds, while Kristen Madeia (Berlin, Conn.) won the 800 meter run with a time of 2:18.19. Abigail Murdock (Westerly, R.I.) was fourth in the 1500 meter run with a time of 5:05.64, while in the 3000 meter run, Hannah Wunderlich (Methuen, Mass.) was third with a time of 11:23.04.
In the high jump, Caroline Hitchcock (Agawam, Mass.) as she cleared 1.62 meters, while Strain was second, clearing 1.59 meters. Brooke McCardell (Kirkwood, Pa.) was third in the pole vault, clearing 2.90 meters, while in the long jump, Alexandra Pratt (Pawcatuck, Conn.) was second with a mark of 5.25 meters. Pratt also took second in the triple jump with a distance of 10.81 meters, while Mikaela LoPriore (Niantic, Conn.) won the shot put with a heave of 11.52 meters.
LoPriore would go on to take third in the hammer throw with a heave of 42.46 meters, while Sam Liberty (Pascoag, R.I.) was fourth in the javelin with a mark of 33.87 meters.
Springfield College will now focus on the 2018 New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Outdoor Track and Field Championships, hosted at Blake Track on Saturday, April 28 at 10:30 a.m.
