Springfield, Mass. - April 7, 2018 - The Springfield College women's track and field team took part in the 8th Annual Yellow Jacket Invitational, hosted at American International College's John G. Hoyt '52 Track and Field Complex on Saturday afternoon.
In the 200 meter dash, Abby Tantorski (North Haven, Conn.) took ninth with a time of 27.14 seconds, before posting a time of 1:05.35 int he 400 meter run, taking 14th overall. Katie Evans (Holyoke, Mass.) was just behind Tantorski in the 400 as she clocked in at 1:06.31. Abigail Murdock (Westerly, R.I.) was fifth in the 800 with a time of 2:31.44, while Macayla LaChance (Peabody, Mass.) took eighth in the event, clocking in at 2:33.74.
Junior Kristen Madeia (Berlin, Conn.) won the 1500 meter run with a time of 4:54.46, finishing close to three seconds faster than the rest of the field, while Katherine Strain (Longmeadow, Mass.) was second in the 100 meter hurdles, crossing in 16.53, just ahead of Emily LaPlante (Troy, N.Y.), who clocked in at 17.41 seconds.
Freshman Taylor Nogiec (Berlin, Conn.) won the high jump, clearing 1.58 meters, while Katie Everton (Stow, Mass.) was third with a mark of 1.44 meters. Paige Shaughnessy (Nashua, N.H.) was fourth in the pole vault, clearing 2.75 meters, while in the shot put, Mikaela LoPriore (Niantic, Conn.) was ninth with a heave of 10.43 meters. Sam Liberty (Pascoag, R.I.) was also fifth in the javelin with a heave of 35.76 meters.
Springfield College will return to competition on Friday, April 13 and Saturday, April 14 at the Connecticut College Invitational in New London, Conn.
