Mahwah, N.J. - March 31, 2018 - The Springfield College women's track and field team finished strong at the second day of the Ramapo Invitational, a 17-team meet hosted by Ramapo College on Friday and Saturday.
The Pride, which tied for second place with 100.5 points, trailed only Bloomfield, which recorded 136 points during the meet. Springfield College tied with Ramapo for second, whil NJIT was fourth with 90 points, before LIU Post wrapped up the top five with 66.
Beginning the day with the 1500 meter run, Laura Volan (Scarborough, Maine) took 10th with a time of 5:12.13, finishing just ahead of Hannah Wunderlich (Methuen, Mass.), who placed 11th with a time of 5:14.63.
In the 100 meter hurdle prelims, Katherine Strain (Longmeadow, Mass.) took fourth with a time of 17.03 seconds, before coming back in the finals and recording a time of 16.72, also good for fourth. Courtney Luscier (Pittsfield, Mass.) had the second-fastest prelim time of 12.82 seconds before coming back in the finals and winning with a time of 12.36 seconds.
Junior Kristen Madeia (Berlin, Conn.) was second in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:24.21, while Abigail Murdock (Westerly, R.I.) was third with a time of 2:27.36. Deanna Carlone (Canostota, N.Y.) was fourth in the 3000 meter steeplechase with a time of 13:11.22.
In the field events, Paige Shaughnessy (Nashua, N.H.) won as she cleared 2.90 meters, while Brooke McCardell (Kirkwood, Pa.) was tied for second in the event. Taylor Nogiec (Berlin, Conn.) tied for second in the high jump, clearing 1.58 meters, while Mia Facchini (Chicopee, Mass.) was fourth overall. Wrapping up the day, Marcie LaRiccia (Lebanon, Maine) was sixth in the discus with a heave of 27.42 meters.
Springfield College will return to action on Saturday, April 7 and will compete in the AIC Invitational in Springfield, Mass.
