Medfield, Mass. - January 13, 2018 - Junior Kristen Madeia (Berlin, Conn.) and freshman Jaime Jax (Brooklyn, Conn.) picked up a pair of first-place finishes as the Springfield College women's track and field team competed at the Tufts Invitational on Saturday.
Madeia won the 800 meter run with a time of 2:23.56, while Jax took home the triple jump, clearing a distance of 34 feet, 3.5 inches.
In the 200 meter dash, Katie Rowe (Mansfield, Mass.) finished ninth overall with a time of 27.87 seconds, before the sophomore took fifth in the 400 meter dash with a time of 1:04.00. In the 3000 meter run, Rachel Wentnick (Metuchen, N.J.) placed sixth with a time of 11:05.70, finishing just ahead of Hannah Wunderlich (Methuen, Mass.), who finished ninth with a time of 11:23.56 and Laura Volan (Scarborough, Maine), who finished 10th with a time of 11:35.33.
After earning a spot in the 60 meter hurdle finals, Katherine Strain (Longmeadow, Mass.) took sixth overall with a time of 9.93 seconds, while in the field events, Taylor Nogiec (Berlin, Conn.) and Strain tied for second in the high jump, both clearing 5 feet, 0.5 inches. Mikaela LoPriore (Niantic, Conn.) put together a pair of good throwing performances, notching a distance of 35 feet, 4.5 inches in the shot put and 41 feet, 11.25 inches in the weight throw, producing a pair of top-10 finishes.
Next, Springfield College will host the Maroon and White Classic, hosted in the Field House on Saturday, January 20.
