Westfield, Mass. - May 18, 2017 - Competing for the final time before the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships, the Springfield College women's track and field program took ninth overall with 22 points at the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championships, hosted at Westfield State on Wednesday and Thursday.
Senior Carly Markos (Wallkill, N.Y.) continued her dominant season in the circle, as she reset her own Springfield College women's track and field program record in the hammer throw, recording a distance of 185 feet, 8 inches, taking first overall in the event. Earlier this season, Markos produced a throw of 184 feet, 5 inches (56.22 meters), which surpassed Kelsey Bishop's throw of 170 feet, 7 inches in 2007.
Standout junior Courtney Luscier (Pittsfield, Mass.) also had a successful meet, as she took third overall in the 100 meter prelims on Wednesday with a career-best time of 12.02, before coming back on Thursday and finishing second overall with a 12.20. Luscier's time of 12.02 second slides her up five spots to No. 17 in all of Division III women's track and field.
Also competing for the Pride was freshman Kathryn Rowe (Marshfield, Mass.), who notched a time of 25.99 seconds in the 200 meter dash, good for 10th overall.
The NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships will be hosted at Mount Union College in Geneva, Ohio from Thursday, May 25 through Saturday, May 27.
