Hanover, N.H. - February 4, 2017 - Led by a record-breaking performance from senior Carly Markos (Wallkill, N.Y.), the Springfield College women's track and field team competed in the Dartmouth Classic on Saturday, hosted by Dartmouth College.
Competing against opponents from all NCAA Divisions, Markos took first overall in the weight throw, as she posted a heave of 59 feet, 4.25 inches to break the Springfield College women's indoor track and field school record of 55 feet, 9.25 inches, set by Fatima Rose in 2010. Markos also finished fifth in shot put with a throw of 40 feet, 7 inches.
Junior Courtney Luscier (Pittsfield, Mass.) impressed in the non-scoring meet, as she claimed second place in the 60 meter dash with a time of 7.81 seconds. Luscier also finished tenth in a 200 meter dash event of 52 sprinters, with a time of 26.66 seconds.
Sophomore Tiffany Tenney (Orange, Mass.) earned a third place finish in the long jump, with a leap of 16 feet, one inch.
Junior Julia Maturo (Seymour, Conn) ran a time of 20:28.97 in the 5,000 meter run. Kathryn Rowe (Mansfield, Mass.) competed in the 400 meter run finishing in a time of 1:01.54. Sophomore Abbie McCann (Northborough, Mass.) finished in the 500 meter run top ten with a time of 1:26.94. Senior Sarah Skillin (Fall River, Mass.) also posted a top ten finish in the 1,000 meter run with a time of 3:11.16.
Springfield will compete in the Boston University Valentine's Invitational next Saturday on Feb. 11, in Boston, Mass.
