Women's Tennis Concludes Best Season Since 1994 With 8-1 Win Over Salve Regina

Springfield, Mass. - April 9, 2017 - The Springfield College women's tennis team concluded its season with an 8-1 victory over Salve Regina on Sunday afternoon at Appleton Courts.

With the win, Springfield improved to 12-6 on the season, marking the second most wins in a season in program history.  Additionally, the Pride put together its most wins since the 1994 squad also reached 12 victories.

Springfield did not drop a set in the doubles play as all three squads won by 8-0 decisions.  Springfield's No. 1 team consisted of Melissa Parrish (Framingham, Mass.) and Rachel London (Port Jefferson, N.Y.), while the No. 2 team was Cara Freadman (Richmond, Mass.) and Rebecca Link (Norwalk, Conn.).  The No. 3 team for the Pride consisted of Emily Etter (Guilford, Conn.) and Stephanie Foster (Woodbridge, Conn.).

In singles play, both Foster and Kelsey Whelpley (Mastic Beach, N.Y.) won by scores of 6-0, 6-0 at No. 5 and No. 6 to highlight Springfield's efforts.  Nicole Piazza (Portland, Conn.) proved victorius at No. 4, 6-1, 6-1, while Fiona Stickney (Bayport, N.Y.) won by a 6-1, 6-2 decision at No. 3. Rachel Litchfield (Northbridge, Mass.) produced the Pride's final singles point after delivering a 4-6, 6-4, 10-5 win at the No. 2 spot.
