Orlando, Fla. - March 16, 2017 - The Springfield College women's tennis team concluded its annual spring break with a 7-2 win against Transylvania on Friday morning.
Springfield improves to 10-6 on the year with the win, as it won all three of its matches in Florida during its trip this week.
The Pride seized early momentum in the match thanks to three wins in doubles play. The No. 3 unit of Emily Etter (Guilford, Conn.) and Stephanie Foster (Woodbridge, Conn.) posted an 8-0 win, while the top doubles team of Rachel London (Port Jefferson, N.Y.) and Melissa Parrish (Framingham, Mass.) earned an 8-2 victory. The No. 2 doubles team of Rebecca Link (Norwalk, Conn.) and Cara Freadman (Richmond, Mass.) added an 8-3 win to give Springfield a 3-0 lead heading into singles action.
Parrish breezed to a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 2 singles, while Nicole Piazza (Portland, Conn.) broke into the lineup at No. 6 and delivered a 6-1, 6-1 victory. Addie Kendall (Lakeville, Mass.) registered a 6-4, 6-2 win at No. 5, and Link produced a 6-3, 6-4 win at the top singles spot to give Springfield the 7-2 victory.
The Pride will return north and face off with American International College on Saturday, March 25 at 10 am on Appleton Courts.
