Orlando, Fla. - March 16, 2017 - The Springfield College women's tennis team cruised to an 8-1 victory over Illinois Wesleyan on Thursday as part of their annual spring break trip.
The win boosts Springfield's record to 9-6 on the year, including a pair of wins in Florida this week.
The Pride opened up the match by easing to three victories in doubles play. The No. 2 doubles team of Rebecca Link (Norwalk, Conn.) and Cara Freadman (Richmond, Mass.) powered their way to an 8-0 victory before the No. 3 squad of Emily Etter (Guilford, Conn.) and Stephanie Foster (Woodbridge, Conn.) picked up an by 8-2 win. The top doubles team of Rachel London (Port Jefferson, N.Y.) and Melissa Parrish (Framingham, Mass.) later produced an 8-4 win to give Springfield the sweep in doubles.
Etter recorded Springfield's most impressive win in singles play, when she registered a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 5, while Parrish, Freadman, and Litchfield each won 6-0, 6-1, at No. 2, 4, and 6, respectively. The Pride's other point in singles play came from London, who prevailed at No. 3 by a score of 6-1, 6-3.
The Pride will play for the final time in warmer climates on Friday morning when it faces Transylvania at 8 am.
