Orlando, Fla. - March 14, 2017 - The Springfield College women's tennis team posted a 9-0 victory against Goucher College on Tuesday night in its first match of its annual spring break trip.
Playing in its first match since October 19 when it appeared in the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Championship Quarterfinals, the Pride improved to 8-6 with the win.
The Pride opened up the match with three hard-fought victories in doubles play, with both the No. 2 doubles squad of Rebecca Link (Norwalk, Conn.) and Cara Freadman (Richmond, Mass.) and the No. 3 squad of Emily Etter (Guilford, Conn.) and Stephanie Foster (Woodbridge, Conn.) winning by 8-4 decisions. The top doubles team of Rachel London (Port Jefferson, N.Y.) and Melissa Parrish (Framingham, Mass.) earned a point with a 8-6 victory.
Link and Freadman both delivered 6-0, 6-0 wins at No. 1 and No. 4 singles, respectively, while Parrish posted a 6-1, 6-1 win at the No. 2 spot. Rachel Litchfield (Northbridge, Mass.) delivered a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 6, and Etter cruised at No. 5 by a 6-2, 6-1 victory. Springfield's sixth and final singles point came from London, thanks to a 6-2, 6-3 decision.
Springfield will play again on Thursday when it takes on Illinois Wesleyan at 1:30 pm.
