Quincy, Mass. - September 15, 2016 - The Springfield College women's tennis team picked up its first win of the season as it dispatched Eastern Nazarene, 9-0, on Thursday afternoon at the ENC Tennis Courts in the first-ever meeting between the two schools.
Playing its first non-conference match of the season, the Pride put together a dominating performance and got off to a great start in doubles play. At the top spot, Rachel London (Port Jefferson, N.Y.) and Melissa Parrish (Framingham, Mass.) cruised to an 8-1 win, Rachel Litchfield (Northbridge, Mass.) and Nicole Piazza (Portland, Conn.) also won by an 8-1 decision at No. 2, while Fiona Stickney (Bayport, N.Y.) and Kelsey Whelpley (Mastic Beach, N.Y.) eased their way to an 8-0 win at No. 3.
Springfield didn't let up in singles play, with three matches ending in 6-0, 6-0 decision as Litchfield won at No. 3, Emily Etter (Guilford, Conn.) at No. 4, and Cara Freadman (Richmond, Mass.) at No. 6.
Parrish won 6-2, 6-0 at the No. 2 spot, while Piazza earned a 6-2, 6-1 at No. 5. Additionally, Springfield won at No. 1 singles by virtue of London's 6-4, 6-3 victory.
Springfield will hit the courts again on Saturday when it hosts Emerson at 1 pm in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play.
