Springfield College To Send Four Student-Athletes to NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving Championships

Springfield, Mass. - March 19, 2018 - Four Springfield College swimming and diving student-athletes will represent the Pride on the national stage at the 2018 NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving Championships. Graduate student Delaney Dyjak (Ludlow, Mass.), senior Christine Shea (Peabody, Mass.), junior Sierra Skaza (Belchertown, Mass.), and freshman Connor Pennington (Monson, Mass.) will compete March 21-24 at IUPUI Natatorium in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Dyjak, a Clinical Mental Health Counseling major, last competed in the Division III Championships in 2016 when she swam a time of 51.52 to finish 21st nationally in the 100 free. Dyjak had  a strong showing at the New England Women's and Mens Athletic Conference Championships, finishing third in the 100 free with a time of 52.37 and second in the 100 butterfly with a time of 55.96. Dyjak will enter nationals seeded No. 13 in the 100 butterfly after recording a qualifying time of 55.96.

Shea, an Applied Exercise Science major, enters the Division III Championships seeded No. 27 in the 100 breaststroke after qualifying with a time of 1:04.72. The senior will make her first appearance on the national stage. Shea qualified for the NCAA Championships with the best swim of her life after taking fourth in the 100 breaststroke at the NEWMAC Championships. 

Skaza, a Psychology major, will also make her first appearance at the Division III Championships after qualifying at the 2018 NCAA Division III North-Northeast Diving Regionals at Middlebury College on March 2-3.  The junior delivered a score of  393.60 to take 11th overall on the one-meter board and seventh overall with a score of 418.60 on the three-meter board.

In his first season at Springfield, Pennington, a Computer Graphics major, will compete in nationals to cap off a outstanding freshman campaign.  At the 2018 NCAA Division III North-Northeast Diving Regionals at Middlebury College on March 2-3, Pennington placed second overall on the three-meter board with a score of 480.5 and recorded a third-place finish on the one-meter board, posting a score of 503.30.
