Springfield, Mass. - December 12, 2016 - Standout senior Emily Medeiros (Wakefield, Mass.) and sophomore diver Sierra Skaza (Belchertown, Mass.) have been recognized for their impressive meet against Middlebury, as they each earned New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Women's Swimming and Diving weekly honors, announced by the conference offices on Monday morning.
Medeiros, a Physical Therapy major at Springfield College, was named the NEWMAC Women's Swimmer of the Week, while Skaza, a Psychology major at Springfield College, earned NEWMAC Women's Diver of the Week honors for the first time in her career.
Medeiros was dominant for the Pride on Saturday against Middlebury, as the Preseason All-American produced first-place finishes in the 200 individual medley, the 100 butterfly and the 100 breaststroke. Medeiros touched in 2:15.81 in the 200 I.M. to win the event, before posting times of 1:00.64 in the 100 butterfly and 1:06.54 in the 100 breaststroke.
Skaza was also impressive on Saturday, as she claimed first-place finishes on both boards. Skaza posted a national-qualifying and winning score of 266.78 on the one-meter board, before cruising to a win on the three-meter with a score of 257.55.
The Pride will next compete on January 7 when Springfield College will take on Hartwick and Union College.
