Ithaca, N.Y. - December 4, 2016 - The Springfield College women's swimming and diving team concluded competition at the Ithaca Invitational on Sunday evening. The Pride finished with a total of 869 points, placing them fourth out of nine teams.
Emily Medeiros (Wakefield, Mass.) raced to victory for the second time this weekend, capturing first in the 200 breast with a time of 2:20.72, which was over five seconds faster than her closest competitor. Christine Shea (Peabody, Mass.) and Amelia McKenzie (Charlton, Mass.) were the Pride's other top finishers in the event, taking fourth and 14th with times of 2:26.72 and 2:34.92.
Olivia Paione (Auburn, Maine) had another strong performance on the weekend, touching the wall in 53.14 to secure fourth in the 100 free. This was followed by the 200 back, in which Mackenzie Coleman (Lake Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) and Lindsay DiFelice (Watertown, Conn.) finished 10th and 15th with a 2:15.31 and a 2:17.40, respectively.
In the 1 meter diving event, sophomore Sierra Skaza (Belchertown, Mass.) finished with a score of 341.75 to finish in 13th place.
To close out the Invitational, the relay team of Cordery, Nolan, Medeiros, and Paione swam a 3:38.61 to take fourth in the 400 Free Relay.
The Pride return to competition on Saturday, December 10, when it hosts Middlebury College at home in Art Linkletter Natatorium.
