Serafino Named Full-Time Assistant Women's Soccer Coach at Springfield College

Springfield, Mass. - April 15, 2019 - Springfield College Director of Athletics, Dr. Craig Poisson, is pleased to announce that Jill Serafino has been named the full-time assistant women's soccer coach at Springfield College.

"I want to thank head coach Dr. John Gibson and Director of Athletics, Dr. Craig Poisson for this opportunity," said Serafino. "I am extremely excited to become a full-time member of the coaching staff at Springfield College. This program has an incredible reputation of integrity, and it fully embodies the Humanics philosophy set forth by the institution. To be involved in this tradition is quite an honor, and I look forward to working with such a decorated coach and group of committed student-athletes while assisting the program with its continued growth and success."

Most recently, Serafino was the head coach of the Simpson College women's soccer program from 2015-2018. Hired as the program's fifth head coach on Jan. 29, 2015, Serafino led the Storm to a five-win campaign in 2015, the most for the program since 2012.

Prior to her time with the Storm, Serafino was largely involved with the women's soccer program at Springfield College as a graduate assistant coach from 2012 to 2014. During that time, Serafino helped lead the Pride to three-consecutive New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) titles and NCAA Division III Championship Tournament appearances. Before coming to Springfield College, Serafino was an assistant coach at American International College and at the University of Albany.

"Jill will bring great knowledge, passion and experience to her new role as the full-time assistant coach of our women's soccer program," said Poisson. "Coach Serafino's experience as a head coach at the Division III level, combined with her two stints as a graduate assistant under head coach Dr. John Gibson, will allow her to help reinforce the championship culture of our women's soccer program here on Alden Street."

Outside of the collegiate landscape, Serafino has also been a head coach and is the currect General Manager for the New England Mutiny in the United Women's Soccer league, as well as a youth head coach at various premier clubs in Connecticut and Massachusetts. Serafino currently holds a Certificate of Advanced Graduate Study (CAGS) in school counseling, as well as an M. Ed in Athletic Counseling, both from Springfield College. Serafino also earned her Bachelor's degree in Psychophysiology and Fitness Management from the University of Massachusetts.

"We are lucky to have some one with Jill's experience, talent, and commitment to Springfield College join our staff as our first ever full time assistant," added Gibson. "She brings a wealth of knowledge and a fierce work ethic that will help our program move forward. She also brings skills in counseling that will be a great asset to our student-athletes individual development both on and off the field."
