Beverly, Mass. - September 8, 2018 - The Springfield College women's soccer team traveled to Endicott College on Saturday, and came away with a 1-1 draw against the Gulls in non-conference action at Hempstead Stadium. With the draw, the Pride is now 3-0-1, while the Gulls are now 1-1-2 on the year.
Springfield College held a 27-16 advantage in shots over 110 minutes of play, while the Gulls were awarded eight corner kicks compared to the Pride's four. In net, Jackie Davis (Ringoes, N.J.) made six stops in between the pipes, while Kayla Wentworth (Taunton, Mass.) posted 11 saves in the draw. Sara Swetland (Manchester, N.H.) scored the lone goal for Springfield College.
Endicott got on the board early as Mary Verneris (Hamden, Conn.) set up a goal for Gabriella Prisco (West Haven, Conn.) in the 13th minute to give the Gulls an early 1-0 advantage, a lead that it would carry into the halftime break. Springfield College had a chance to even the score following the goal when Kaleigh Dale (Mansfield, Conn.) got back-to-back shots off in the 14th and 16 minutes, but Wentworth was able to come up with consecutive saves to keep the Pride at bay.
Dale had another chance in the 20th minute when she had a direct free kick just outside the box, but Wentworth made another stop, and followed up with a save on Swetland to preserve the Gulls' lead.
Opening the second half, Davis was able to make two saves in the early goings to keep the Pride within one, before Springfield College pulled even in the 62nd minute on an unassisted strike from Swetland to make it 1-1. Both sides would compete back-and-forth until the whistle to end regulation, with the score still even at one goal apiece.
In the first overtime period, Alyana Sosa (Naugatuck, Conn.) had a shot just 45 seconds in that was turned away by Wentworth, before Swetland had a chane just 3:25 later, but also stifled by Wentworth to keep the game even. Both goalies would hold their opponents' attack from scoring, resulting in a 1-1 draw.
Up next, Springfield College will travel to UMass Dartmouth on Tuesday, September 11 for a 7 p.m. tilt with the Corsairs.
