Springfield, Mass. - December 2, 2016 - Senior captain and defender Brianna Messier (Hopedale, Mass.) was recognized for her dominant 2016 season, as she was elected to represent the Springfield College women's soccer program in the New England Women's Intercollegiate Soccer Association (NEWISA) Senior Bowl, taking place on Saturday, December 3 at Merrimack College in North Andover, Mass.
The game, which will kick off at 2 p.m., features the most talented senior student-athletes across all NCAA Divisions.
Messier, an Occupational Therapy major at Springfield College, proved to be the anchor of Springfield College's defense, as she helped the Pride claim its sixth championship in the last seven seasons when the maroon and white prevailed over NYU for the ECAC Division III Championship. In the championship game, Messier scored her first-career goal with 1:50 to play, then sealed the victory with the game-winning penalty kick to help Springfield College past the Violets.
Messier, a National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Third Team All-America, First Team All-Region and New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) First Team All-Conference selection, helped the Pride to one of its finest seasons defensively, as Springfield College held opponents to just 11 goals all season, while also breaking the program records for shutouts in a single season with 12.
