Middletown, Conn. - February 9, 2017 - For the second-time this season, Springfield College first-year Joseph Fusco (Billerica, Mass.) was chosen as the New England Wrestling Association (NEWA) Rookie of the Week.
Fusco continued his outstanding wrestling of late and improved to 30-7 this season, including 20-1 in the second semester. In helping the Pride win the City of Springfield Championship for the ninth time in the past 11 years, Fusco avenged one of his losses from earlier this year at the Doug Parker Invitational finals as he defeated junior college All-American Donovan Losada from Springfield Technical CC by pinfall in 4:22. He later delivered an 18-5 major decision over Domenic Liquori from WNE to clinch the city title.
In a quad meet over the weekend in the Springfield College Field House, Fusco was dominant as he pinned Castleton's Mason Osborn in just 52 seconds and grinded out an 11-9 win over Jonah Aurielo from Johnson & Wales.
Fusco and Springfield College will travel to battle WPI at 5 pm on Saturday.
