Middletown, Conn. - November 25, 2016 - Springfield College's Zach Joseph (Clifton Park, N.Y.) was selected as the New England Wrestling Association (NEWA) Wrestler of the Week after leading the Pride to the Doug Parker Invitational title last weekend.
For the second-straight year, Joseph was chosen as the Most Outstanding Wrestler, marking just the sixth time in the 26 years of the Invitational that a Springfield College wrestler has earned the accolade.
In his first action of the season, Joseph was sensational en route to claiming the title at 157. The senior opened the day with two tech falls and a pair of major decisions to earn a spot in the title bout. Going up against Coast Guard's Christopher Sullivan, who was last week's NEWA Wrestler of the Week and was nationally-ranked, Joseph delivered an 11-5 win by decision to win a weight class at the Doug Parker Invitational for the second-straight year and claiming the 149 pound title last season.
With their team win at the Parker, Springfield is now ranked third in New England behind Roger Williams and Johnson & Wales. Joseph is currently the top-ranked wrestler in the region at 157, while seven other Springfield College wrestlers are individually ranked including Andrew Mastrangelo (5th, 133), Patrick Ferzoco (3rd, 141), Jacob Strohman (4th, 149), Aarin Feliz (5th, 165), Geovanni Medina (2nd, 174), Seve Burgos (6th, 184), and Joseph Fusco (6th, 285).
