Boston, Mass. - April 24, 2017 - Springfield College's Shelby Corsano (Bourne, Mass.) and Gabby Anderson (Mahopac, N.Y.) have been recognized for their impressive week, as the duo earned New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Women's Lacrosse weekly awards.
Corsano, a Physical Therapy major, picked up her second NEWMAC Women's Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Week honor of the season, while Anderson, an Elementary Education and American Studies major, garnered NEWMAC Women's Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week honors. In addition to being recognized by the conference, Anderson was also named the ECAC Division III New England Women's Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week.
Corsano, a junior attacker for Springfield College, helped the Pride to a pair of wins last week with a total of nine points, including eight goals and one assist and five draw controls. In a 13-2 win over Smith, Corsano picked up three goals and one assist, before recording a season-high five goals in a 10-9 overtime victory against Babson on Saturday. Corsano scored her fifth of the game just 1:01 into overtime to lift the Pride to victory.
Anderson, a senior goalkeeper for Springfield College, was dominant in a pair of wins for the Pride last week, as she made 16 saves and only gave up nine goals in two goals. In the Pride's 13-2 win over Smith on Wednesday, Anderson held the Pioneers scoreless in 49:37, before she came back on Saturday and made 11 stops in an overtime victory over Babson on Saturday.
The Pride will wrap up their regular-season schedule on Wednesday, April 26 when it will host Emerson at 6 p.m.
