New Haven, Conn. - February 17, 2017 - The Springfield College women's gymnastics team finished third overall in a quad meet hosted by Division-II Southern Connecticut State University on Friday evening.
The Yale Bulldogs took first overall, posting a team score of 192.450, while The Owls took second with a 188.050. Springfield College earned a score of 185.100 on the evening, good for third, while Rhode Island College wrapped things up with a 179.350.
Standout senior and reigning National Collegiate Gymnastics Association (NCGA) East All-Around Gymnast of the Week, Marissa DeAngelo (Brookfield, Conn.), took second overall in the all-around competition, as she combined for a 37.725.
On vault, sophomore Heather Gomes (Beverly, Mass.) and DeAngelo were the Pride's top finisher with a 9.425, while Nicole Silva (Barrington, R.I.) followed with a 9.400. Sophomore Jessica Clemens (South Setauket, N.Y.) registered a 9.325, while Taylor Jackson (Ocean, N.J.) earned a 9.300.
Clemens fell just shy of her career-high on bars when she posted a 9.625 to finish in a tie for fifth overall, while Corri Greis (Spotswood, N.J.) and DeAngelo followed with a 9.250 and a 9.225, respectively. Ashley Parchinski (Chester, N.Y.) notched a 9.100, while Jackson and Briana Kerr (Bolton, Conn.) posted matching scores of 9.050.
Leading the Pride on the beam was DeAngelo, who tied for first overall with a 9.625, while Clemens produced a 9.425 to finish seventh. Lastly, on the floor exercise, Silva was the Pride's best as she posted a 9.625, while DeAngelo followed with a 9.450. Victoria Gendreau (Warren, R.I.) scored a 9.350, and Madi Bowen (Sunderland, Mass.) rounded out the Pride's top four with a 9.300.
On Saturday, Springfield College will host Ithaca College in its home opener in Blake Arena at 1 p.m.
