Springfield, Mass. - February 13, 2017 - After a record-breaking week, senior Marissa DeAngelo (Brookfield, Conn.) of the Springfield College women's gymnastics program has been recognized as the National Collegiate Gymnastics Association (NCGA) East All-Around Gymnast of the Week, announced on Monday afternoon.
DeAngelo, a senior Physical Therapy major at Springfield College, broke her own program record in the all-around competition, as she notched a 38.550, surpassing her previous school record of 38.275, which she scored at the NCGA Championships last March. It was quite the afternoon for the reigning NCGA East Gymnast of the Year, as DeAngelo posted a career-best score of 9.575 on the uneven bars, 9.600 on vault, 9.700 on the balance beam, and earned a 9.675 for her floor exercise routine.
This marks the sixth time in her career that DeAngelo has been named the NCGA East All-Around Gymnast of the Week, and her first time during the 2017 season. DeAngelo earned the accolade three times as a sophomore and twice as a junior.
The Pride will compete twice this upcoming week, as it will head to Yale on Friday evening for a quad meet at 5 p.m., before returning to Blake Arena on Sunday for its home opener against Ithaca at 1 p.m.
