Louisville, Ky. - February 7, 2018 - Springfield College's Kirsten Drobiak (Griswold, Conn.) has been one of 50 student-athletes in Division III named to the 2018 Schutt Sports/National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Division III National Player of the Year Watch List.
Drobiak, an NFCA Second-Team All-America selection in 2017, is one of two student-athletes recognized from the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) and one of five student-athletes from the New England region to appear on the list.
The reigning NEWMAC Softball Athlete of the Year, Drobiak had a breakout junior season in 2017, as the infielder was named a Fastpitch News Honorable Mention All-American, Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III New England Player of the Year and First-Team All Star, while also being selected as NFCA First-Team All-Region and NEWMAC First-Team All-Conference. As impressive as she was on the field, Drobiak also succeeded in the classroom, as she earned College Sports Information Directors Association of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District® honors with a 3.74 grade-point average in the Physician Assistant program.
Drobiak put up record numbers for the Pride last season, as she posted a batting average of .441, producing 64 hits, including 20 doubles, eight home runs and 50 RBI. Drobiak's 50 RBI is the new single-season program record for Springfield College, as she passed the previous mark of 47 RBI, set by Jenna Webb '16 in 2013. Last season, Springfield College finished 32-11 overall and was the top-ranked Division III softball program in New England at the end of the regular season. The Pride's 32 wins marked the third most in program history, and most victories for the team since 2003.
The Pride will open the 2018 campaign with its annual trip to Florida, and will take on Trinity at 9 a.m. on Sunday, March 11.
