Oklahoma City, Okla. - May 25, 2017 - Junior infielder Kirsten Drobiak (Griswold, Conn.) of the Springfield College softball team was recognized for her historic season in maroon and white, as she was named a National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-American, announced on Thursday.
Drobiak, a Physician Assistant major at Springfield College, becomes the first All-American for the Springfield College softball program since 2010 when Bryn Worrilow '10 earned All-America recognition following an incredible senior season.
For her efforts in 2017, Drobiak was named to the Second Team, as she was the lone representative from the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) and one of just three student-athletes from New England recognized.
It was a special season for the Pride, as Springfield College finished 32-11 overall and was the top-ranked Division III softball program in New England at the end of the regular season. The Pride's 32 wins marked the third most in program history, and most victories for the team since 2003.
Drobiak, who was also named the 2017 NEWMAC Softball Athlete of the Year, put up record numbers for the Pride this season, as she posted a batting average of .441, producing 64 hits, including 20 doubles, eight home runs and 50 RBI. Drobiak's 50 RBI is the new single-season program record for Springfield College, as she passed the previous mark of 47 RBI, set by Jenna Webb '16 in 2013.
In addition to earning All-America honors, Drobiak was also the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III New England Player of the Year, and earned NFCA First-Team All-Region and NEWMAC First-Team All-Conference honors in 2017.
As impressive she is on the field, Drobiak is just as strong in the classroom, as she currently holds a grade-point average of 3.74 in a rigorous Physician Assistant major at Springfield College. Earlier this spring, Drobiak was named to the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Academic All-Conference team along with eight of her teammates, the most in conference.
